LEM Surgical AG was founded in Bern, Switzerland by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Weber, Prof. Dr. Andreas Raabe, Marco Matulic, Simon Michel, and Yossi Bar. The genesis of the company was rooted in their passion and vision to advance the field of robotic surgery and to help achieve superior surgical outcomes for patients.

Founder of multiple companies including Neoguide System (sold to Intuitive Surgical in 2009), Vascular Pathways (sold to C R Bard in 2014), Zipline Medical (sold to Stryker in 2019), Radiaction Medical, Emboline, Modular Surgical, Venocare and Follisave.

Alf Grunwald

Board member of Paragon 28, Realists GmbH, Starlight Cardiovascular, and Proprio.

From 2006 to 2016, Alf served as an Associate Professor for Corporate Finance and Entrepreneurship at the University of Applied Science Offenburg. Alf has served as partner at E.M. Warburg Pincus, was CEO and President of the Deloitte Consulting ICS Group, and founded T.L. Onyx Inc.

Chairman of the Board for Wells Dairy, Inc.

Board member of the First National Bank of Le Mars, Harkers Distribution, Inc., International Ice Cream Association, International Dairy Food Association, and the Iowa Business Council. Member of the Advisory Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

A visionary mindset

The company name is an homage to Stanislaw Lem.

Stanislaw Lem

Stanisław Herman Lem (12 September 1921 – 27 March 2006) was a science fiction writer and authored essays on various subjects, including philosophy and futurology. Lem's books have been translated into more than 50 languages and have sold more than 45 million copies.

Philosophy

Lem is the author of the fundamental philosophical work Summa Technologiae, in which he anticipated the creation of virtual reality, artificial intelligence, artificial worlds, and developed the ideas of human auto-evolution.
